BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The two quilt layouts featured below for the Brasstown Star quilt block are very different indeed. It just goes to show that there is great creativity available to set this (or any) quilt block in a stunning quilt design.

The quilt layout featured on the left sets the block on the diagonal using both full and half blocks to create the design. Sashing strips and blank blocks of the same background colour create the illusion of the blocks "floating". The additional of several blank blocks in a brighter fabric give an extra pop of colour overall.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right adds large corner triangles to each block. Careful colour choices for these large triangles adds a new element to the design, as well as increasing the block size. The sashing strips give the appearance of perhaps looking through a "window pane".
