For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block. These larger blocks can then be laid out in variety of ways to make some very interesting original designs.
Sample Quilt Layouts
The Blue Yukon quilt block is a simple five patch design that yields some lovely quilt layouts. You might want an understated look for your quilt, as in the side by side block setting shown in the quilt on the left, or perhaps you would like to showcase extra pops of colour by adding additional blank blocks, as is evident in the quilt on the right. Either choice is guaranteed to produce a striking quilt
