BLOCKS by SIZE 5" Quilt Blocks

For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block. These larger blocks can then be laid out in variety of ways to make some very interesting original designs.

Black Hole

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Black Hole is an easy block for construction, as it has only one quilt patch to learn -- the flying geese patch.

This quilt block is also part of the category uneven nine patch as it is constructed just the same as a nine patch, but all of the units are not the same size.

This time, I have shown four different quilt layouts in the samples illustrated, just so you know that a simple block does not mean that your quilt will be boring. Enjoy!
