There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Bear Tracks quilt block is an old favourite. It looks wonderful using either a dark or a light fabric for the background. Here I have chosen to use a dark fabric to offset the other features of the quilt block.
This is a great nine patch block for teachers to use because it contains both the half square triangle and quarter square triangle patches.
Due to the "look" of the block in the colours I have chosen, I see a star as well. Can you see it too?
