BLOCKS by SIZE 10.5" Quilt Blocks

A quilt block in a size of 10½ inches is not commonly used, but it is a nice "in-between" size to scale a quilt block when 14" is too big and 7" is too small. As you may have guessed, these quilt blocks fit into the category of seven patch since they are designed on a 7 x 7 grid.

The Autumn Tints quilt block might look difficult at first glance. However, on closer inspection, you will see that it is made of simple patches -- only squares, rectangles and half square triangles.

My version of this seven patch design is sewn, for ease, in what I like to call "chunks", rather than row by row. These chunks are laid out and constructed as an uneven nine patch to make the whole process much easier -- at least in my view.

In keeping with the name of the block, I chose to use the colours of autumn for my version, but this block would look striking in lots of other palettes. Which will you choose?
