The Aunt Vinah's Favorite quilt block is a nine patch design featuring lots of interesting pieces.
In the patches that contain the lighter green fabric forming the star motif, you will get lots of practice in making what quilters usually call a three quarter square triangle patch. It is constructed using both half square triangles and also quarter square triangles for the reason that you need the outer edges of each patch to be cut on the "straight of grain" of the fabric. Once you master these wonderful patches, you are well on the way to sewing the completed block in no time.
Oh and let's not forget that centre patch in the block -- made of a square in a square patch.
