There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

The Arrows quilt block falls into one of my favourite categories -- the directional type of quilt block. By rotating this block by 90 degrees you can get a different effect in the resultant quilt than what you see in just the block -- and as an added bonus, secondary designs can emerge.
