Alaska Homestead

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Alaska Homestead quilt block is a simple five patch design and could be used as a first block if you are new to quiltmaking. It features only half square triangles and square patches.

I chose to use a colour scheme that represents Alaska -- the navy and yellow from the state flag and the periwinkle colour for the state flower -- the forget-me-not.

For additional ease in the making of this block, I have written the instructions to construct it as an uneven nine patch, as I prefer to work in"chunks" rather than sew row by row, but feel free to sew in your chosen method.
