There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

The Air Castle sample quilts shown below are both constructed using standard quilt block settings -- one is a side by side setting with sashing strips to separate the blocks while the second quilt sets the blocks on point with different coloured background squares and setting triangles for extra effect.
