BLOCKS by SIZE 10.5" Quilt Blocks

A quilt block in a size of 10½ inches is not commonly used, but it is a nice "in-between" size to scale a quilt block when 14" is too big and 7" is too small. As you may have guessed, these quilt blocks fit into the category of seven patch since they are designed on a 7 x 7 grid.

I had never heard of the Acanthus quilt block, but with a little research, I found it was designed by "Nancy Cabot", a pen name of Loretta Leitner Rising, who wrote a daily newspaper column for the Chicago Tribune during the 1930s featuring a new quilt block pattern each day. Acanthus was one of those designs.

This easy quilt block features only squares and rectangles and is designed as a seven patch, since it is drafted on a 7 x 7 grid. However, it is sewn as an uneven nine patch for ease in the sewing process.
