Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Arrowhead Puzzle quilt block could not be simpler. The block is also known as Garlic Knots, a name atrributed to Bonnie Hunter of Quiltsville.

The block contains only squares and rectangles in this four patch design. The interest lies in the directional nature of the block, which allows for all sorts of interesting possibilities when you use many blocks and 90 degree rotations.

This design could easily be created using only two fabrics, but I chose to make this a scrappy block, while maintaining some control by sticking to only two colour families. This block would also look fabulous with lots of different coloured scraps, as long as the centre section (shown here in red) had a definite contrast to the other fabrics. (This is what makes the design stand out.)
